Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Student Incentive

The mental health of our citizens is foundational to all other goals we seek to accomplish in education, job growth and public safety. By prioritizing our mental health safety net and suicide prevention, we are caring for more Tennesseans and building healthier communities

– Governor Bill Lee, Tennessee

There is a severe shortage of all types of mental health professionals, with rural areas hit the hardest.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Student Incentive

This incentive offers $20,000 per year for two years to Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) Students currently in a Master's, Doctoral, or Graduate Certificate program. In return, students will commit to serving two years in a rural or underserved practice site following graduation.

We don't stipulate how you can spend the money. Incentive funds are disbursed in quarterly payments of $5,000 until the maximum funds have been reached. Please note this incentive is considered taxable income.

Students are required to find their own practice location to complete their service commitment. Practice sites must be approved by TCWD and deemed an appropriate site for this program. Every recipient must complete a Psych NP Practice Site Approval Form. This program is designed to support Psych NP students who are planning to practice in a rural or underserved area of Tennessee.

Please reach out to TCWD at tcwd@tha.com if you have any questions about this program.

This project is funded by the State of Tennessee.
