Practice Site Incentive
New in 2026!
With the success of 2025 THA’s legislative efforts to support rural hospitals in counties with populations under 105,000, the TCWD Practice Site Incentive eligibility criteria has been updated to include recruitment and retention of Emergency Medicine Physicians at rural hospitals in counties with less than 105,000 in population.
The Practice Site Recruitment and Retention Incentive provides grants of up to $50,000 to practice sites in rural or underserved areas of Tennessee to support recruitment and retention efforts. Eligible positions include primary care physicians, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and dentists. Funds may be used for:
- Sign-on or retention bonuses
- Relocation expenses
- Malpractice insurance
- Locum tenens staffing
- Tuition or loan repayment
Owners, equity partners, or immediate family members of practice site administrators are ineligible for sign-on bonuses or retention bonuses.
To receive the funds, awarded participants must submit a “Funds Use Verification” form, a copy of the provider’s employment contract, and other supporting documentation within 180 days. Any unused funds must be returned to TCWD.

Quarterly Report Due Dates:
Q1 | January- March 2026 Report due by May 31, 2026
Q2 | April – June 2026 Report due by August 31, 2026
Q3 | July – September 2026 Report due by November 30, 2026
Q4 | October – December 2026 Report due by February 28, 2027
